Privacy policy
Updated October 15, 2026. BookMaestro is operated by Graceful Labs, a division of Graceful Acres Farm, LLC. This policy describes our handling of personal information and library data.
US customers aged 18 or older
BookMaestro is currently available only to customers located in the United States. Beta applicants and new users must confirm their US location.
BookMaestro is intended for people aged 18 or older. You must confirm that you are at least 18 to join the beta or create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact our support team if you believe a person under 18 has submitted information so we can review and remove it.
Private by default. Never for sale.
Your account information, book collection, shelves, reading activity, ratings, reviews, notes, and import follow-ups are private. We do not sell, rent, license, or share this data for advertising or data-broker purposes. We do not make private library data public.
Beta release updates
If you join the beta list, we store your name, email address, signup date, email verification status, and consent (including confirmation of age 18 or older and US location) to contact you about the BookMaestro beta. Joining does not create an account, start a subscription, or authorize charges. Contact our support team to leave the list or request deletion.
Information we use
We store your username, email, verification status, account role, password hash, session records, subscription identifiers and status, library records, and the information you choose to add. We use these records to provide your library, keep accounts secure, manage subscriptions, support imports, and provide help. We do not store plain-text passwords or credit-card numbers.
Your sharing choices
Each user’s libraries and shelves start private. You may invite someone to a single book or an entire shelf with the available permissions. Sharing a book or shelf includes its catalog details, reviews and personal notes. Account administrators manage account users; that role does not automatically expose another user’s private library. Shelf owners can revoke sharing access. Someone who has already viewed or exported shared data may retain their copy.
Book lookup and image recognition
When you add a book or request missing information, book identifiers, titles, authors, and related queries may be sent to third-party sources to obtain book details and cover images. If you choose cloud image recognition or series discovery, the submitted image or book query is sent to a third-party service for processing. A local recognition option keeps image processing on your computer. Imported photos are processed for the requested lookup; the import to-do list stores the issue and source reference, rather than retaining an uploaded image. Do not include sensitive personal information in photos you submit for cloud recognition.
Email, hosting and payments
Hosting and database providers process data so the app can operate. Verified-email delivery uses the configured email provider (Resend). Credit-card checkout is handled by Stripe; PayPal subscriptions are handled by PayPal. Those services receive the information needed to verify your email or process your subscription under their own privacy policies. We receive payment identifiers, status and billing dates, rather than your card number. Providers may process information outside your country.
Anonymous usage information
We may collect anonymous, aggregated usage information to understand reliability, feature usage and performance. Anonymous measurements must not include names, email addresses, private book titles, notes, reviews, photos, shelf contents, precise locations, or persistent identifiers that can be linked back to a person. We do not sell anonymous usage data or attempt to identify people from it. No optional analytics or advertising tracker is being introduced with this policy. Hosting and security systems may retain operational logs, such as request times and network addresses; these are not treated as anonymous statistics.
Cookies and security
BookMaestro uses a secure session cookie for sign-in and local app files for the installable web app. Library API responses are not stored in the app’s offline cache. Passwords are salted and hashed, and access checks run on the server. Hosting and security providers may set their own essential cookies. No security system can guarantee absolute protection.
Retention and your choices
You can view and edit your books, export your library, delete book records, and revoke access to shared books or shelves. Contact the account administrator for account access, correction, export or deletion requests, including information not available through the book editor. We retain data to provide the service and meet security, financial and legal requirements. Deleted information may remain temporarily in provider backups or required transaction records. Anonymous aggregate statistics may be retained.
Affiliate links and referral income
BookMaestro earns referral income from qualifying purchases made through book referral links in the app. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Purchases are completed with the linked retailer. When you follow a referral link, the retailer may use cookies or similar technologies to attribute your purchase under its own privacy policy. We do not sell your private library data or provide it to retailers for referral attribution.
